We have 2 of these, all the culms died after the 3 day freeze. I cut them back to the ground and am hoping for new culms when the weather warms up.

The original one has 3 stalks, 2 over 30' tall and 1" culms.

The ones out front get full sun and have already put out several new culms.

The drought didn't slow them down or affect the bamboo. I don't know if they sent roots down below the water table or if they really don't need much water?

Love the clumping bamboos, I highly recommend them.

I put 3 more of these in to replace plants lost to Ike. The ones in sun put up new culms about 6 months after being planted.

The third culm appeared in late July, it is now 20' tall and more than an inch in diameter near the bottom.

Mealy bugs seem to like this plant. I've been blasting them off with a water hose.

This is planted in mostly shade, and a more dry than wet area which may be why it isn't growing faster. I expect in the long run that will be a good thing.
