Herself’s Houston Garden

Gardening for fun and wildlife at the edge of Houston’s piney woods

American Tree Sparrow

These American Tree Sparrows have been gluttons at the feeder for a couple of weeks now. I am not sure if they are passing through or going to stay around?

They did winter over and are here year round. So far they have not been a problem at my feeders.

I got rid of my bird feeder because of these birds. They’re loud and messy and aggressive against other (more polite and pretty) birds. Finally got tired of their racket.

Oh. We have problems with starlings up north.

I haven’t seen many of these guys yet. Thanks for the warning.

  3. Nancy says:

They’re here pretty much all year. I’ve not had much trouble with them, I have a problem with the Mexican Doves hogging all the seed.

  4. herself says:

There are only a few tree sparrows ( so far ). I’ll be watching them closely now.

Squirrels are the main problem. They can’t get into these feeders. But are here all the time gathering up the seed that spills.

In a month or so they’ll be raiding pine cones and leaving huge piles of the sharp parts of the cones all over the yard.
